Discover the Wonders of Holden Forests & Gardens: A Unique Connection to Nature in Northeast Ohio
Nestled in the heart of Northeast Ohio, Holden Forests & Gardens is a unique destination that brings together the beauty and significance of two iconic locations: the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland and the Cleveland Botanical Garden in University Circle. Together, they form one of the largest and most diverse collections of natural spaces in the United States, offering year-round opportunities to connect with nature.
Two Campuses, One Mission
At Holden Forests & Gardens, the mission is simple yet powerful: to connect people with the wonder, beauty, and value of trees and plants and to inspire action for healthier communities. This mission is brought to life through:
- Holden Arboretum: A sprawling 3,600-acre living laboratory filled with trees, plants, and landscapes. Visitors can explore 250 acres of cultivated gardens, marvel at the forest canopy on a Canopy Walk, or climb the Emergent Tower for breathtaking views stretching to Lake Erie.
- Cleveland Botanical Garden: America’s first civic garden, this 11-acre urban oasis showcases stunning landscapes, innovative small-space gardening ideas, and biomes inspired by Costa Rica and Madagascar.

Environmental Leadership and Research
Holden Forests & Gardens goes beyond providing beautiful spaces—it’s a leader in conservation and research. With over 3,000 acres of preserved land, their work ensures that Northeast Ohio's forests remain resilient and healthy for future generations. Their team of 40 scientists conducts cutting-edge research on forest health, focusing on challenges like pests, pathogens, and climate change.
