Mentor Model United Nations
Mentor High School's Model UN team, where students take on the roles of diplomats and world leaders - and an Adventure Subaru community partner since 2026.
What is Mentor Model United Nations?
Mentor Model United Nations (Mentor MUN) is the Model UN team at Mentor High School in Mentor, Ohio. The team's 35 students act as diplomats representing countries and officials in mock United Nations committees, where they research global issues, debate policy, negotiate with delegates from other schools, and write resolutions. The team hosts an annual crisis conference at Mentor High, competes at conferences in Cleveland and Chicago, and coaches Jr. MUN teams at Mentor's two middle schools.
Adventure Subaru, a family-owned Subaru retailer in Painesville, Ohio, became a supporter of Mentor Model UN in fall 2026 with a $1,000 donation toward the team's season and its tenth annual conference, Mentor MUN X.
Where students learn to work with the world
Model UN asks high school students to do something most adults find hard: stand up in a room full of strangers, represent a point of view that may not be their own, and find enough common ground to get a resolution passed.
The mission
Mentor MUN's stated mission is to deepen students' knowledge of the United Nations and world affairs, encourage cultural understanding and peace, and give students hands-on practice in diplomacy and international relations. The team meets Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m. in Room C-213, and members can earn an academic letter and a graduation cord. Steve Couch has advised the team since 2004.
Mentor MUN X
On October 9 and 10, 2026, Mentor High School's Paradigm building hosted Mentor MUN X, the team's tenth annual crisis conference. The team called it "our best and biggest yet": 133 delegates from eight schools, up from about 90 the year before. Delegates came from Revere, St. Edward, Archbishop Hoban, Riverside, St. Ignatius, Laurel, Elyria Catholic, and Solon. Mentor students ran the event themselves as chairs, co-chairs, monitors, and runners, with volunteers from the school's National Honor Society.
This year's theme was "The Stability and Sovereignty of Africa." Day one ran as country cabinets; on day two the cabinets came together in a new African Union General Assembly format. Delegates could take on the role of a nation's president, student chairs played UN Ambassadors, and ministers of finance, health, agriculture, foreign affairs, and defense met with their counterparts from other countries to respond to a crisis of drought, regional conflict, piracy, and disease before bringing resolutions to the General Assembly. Algeria earned Best Full Delegation and Madagascar earned Honorable Mention. Mentor High School's student newspaper covered the conference in A Decade and Counting: A Review of Mentor MUN X (Cardinal Nation).
Where the team competes
The 2026-27 schedule includes the Cleveland Council on World Affairs (CCWA) Fall conference at Case Western Reserve University, Chicago International MUN, and Cleveland International MUN.
Last season, Mentor students earned Superior Delegation, Excellent Delegation, and the Gavel Award at CCWA Fall; Best Delegate and Outstanding Delegate awards at Chicago International MUN; a Highly Commended Delegation and Best Delegate awards at Cleveland International MUN; and a Superior Delegation at CCWA Spring.
Training the next generation
Each Mentor middle school, Shore and Memorial, has its own Jr. MUN team, started by a Mentor MUN graduate as her senior project. High school members run practice days for the younger students. In November 2025, 36 middle schoolers debated "AI and Global Security" at a practice day run by the high school team, preparing for the CCWA Jr. MUN conference in January.

Subaru Loves Learning
The Subaru Love Promise is Subaru of America's national commitment to showing love and respect to all people at every interaction - and to backing that commitment through five pillars. Subaru Loves Learning is the pillar focused on education and opportunity, and it's where our support for Mentor Model UN belongs.
Model UN is learning by doing: students research real global issues, argue positions in front of their peers, negotiate across differences, and run a conference of their own. The skills carry well past graduation.
Our first season together
Our partnership with Mentor Model UN began in fall 2026, in the run-up to the team's tenth annual conference. Here's what we've done together so far.
$1,000 donation to Mentor Model UN
Adventure Subaru donated $1,000 to Mentor Model UN through Mentor Public Schools, supporting the team's 2026 season and its tenth annual conference, Mentor MUN X.
At Mentor MUN X
A banner reading "Adventure Subaru is proud to support Mentor Model UN" stood at the conference, and Rachel Lufkin-Chubb, Internet and Sales Manager, spoke at the opening ceremonies on October 9.
