LCCOA Meals on Wheels

The Lake County Council on Aging Meals on Wheels program provides daily nutritious meals, companionship and critical safety checks to Lake County's homebound seniors to combat hunger and isolation. Blizzard bags provide 2-3 days of emergency food for use when Meals on Wheels is unable to deliver due to winter weather or other emergency.
The Council on Aging is teaming up with Subaru dealers and the Lake County Senior Services Coalition to collect READY-TO-EAT, non-perishable food items for emergency Blizzard Bags.
Shelf-stable, ready-to-eat food items will be distributed to home delivered meal seniors who are unable to stock their own emergency food pantry.
Single serve containers that may be opened without a can opener are desired.

Meals on Wheels America
Earlier this year, Meals on Wheels America awarded the Lake County Council on Aging a grant of nearly $4000 for the agency's impressive efforts to raise community awareness and support of local homebound and socially isolated Lake County seniors.
The Lake County Council on Aging has proudly participated in the Subaru Share the Love Event with the help of our partners, like Adventure Subaru, in the Senior Services Coalition to provide nutritional support to seniors through home delivery of Blizzard Bags and Meals on Wheels.
The success of this program is only possible with your help. Emergency food resources for seniors, especially in the winter, is a necessity!

50 Years of Caring for Lake County Seniors
Over the last five decades, Lake County Council on Aging has earned a reputation for being the trusted resource for older adults in Lake County. They have worked hard to address the changing needs of an ever growing senior community, striving to fulfill their vision to help seniors age with dignity and independence in the setting of their choice.
From Meals on Wheels deliveries to homemaker services, the Council on Aging fills gaps that might otherwise go unmet—providing not just practical support, but genuine human connection. For clients like Irma Jean Tyson, who lives alone, weekly visits from homemaker Sandy Demisa have blossomed into a treasured friendship. "We love each other," Sandy says. "We even sneak a hug in once in a while."
That spirit of care runs through everything the organization does. Dedicated staff, passionate volunteers, and committed board members work together to ensure Lake County seniors have somewhere to turn—whether they need help navigating Medicare, accessing in-home services, or simply finding a friendly face at the door.
As board members past and present reflected during the 50th anniversary celebration, the Council on Aging has become the backbone for senior services in our community. And with a strong foundation in place, the next 50 years look brighter than ever.
