What is a Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer?

The Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer Program is a voluntary environmental certification from Subaru of America for Subaru retailers. To earn it, a store passes a point-based on-site inspection by Green Dealer Support, Subaru's program partner, covering five areas: energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, waste management, and community involvement.

Adventure Subaru, a family-owned Subaru retailer in Painesville, Ohio, was first certified in January 2018. In February 2026, Green Dealer Support and Subaru of America confirmed that we met every requirement for our 2025 recertification.

The Five Areas

What we do in each one

Certification is earned across all five areas, and our Green Team keeps the work going between inspections. Here's what that looks like at 1991 Mentor Avenue.

Energy Efficiency

LED lighting, sensors, and tracking

We're upgrading the building to LED lighting area by area, with occupancy sensors and programmable thermostats so lights and heat run only when needed. We track monthly electric, gas, and water use in the EPA's Energy Star Portfolio Manager.

Water Conservation

No irrigation

Our landscaping is kept minimal and relies on rainfall alone. We don't water it, by hand or by sprinkler system, and water use is tracked monthly alongside energy.

Recycling

Cardboard out of the landfill

Parts and vehicle deliveries bring in a lot of cardboard. A dedicated recycling container on site keeps it out of the landfill.

Waste Management

Oil, coolant, batteries, and tires

Our service department sends used oil, coolant, batteries, and tires to certified recyclers instead of the trash.

Community Involvement

Trees, gardens, and clean streets

Annual tree distributions with the Arbor Day Foundation, Holden Forests & Gardens as our 2024 Share the Love charity, and a yearly sponsorship of the City of Painesville Clean Up Day. More on each below.

Inside the Store

Upgrades as we renovate

When we replaced the carpeting in our showroom and finance offices, we chose materials that meet environmental standards for indoor air quality and sustainability.

In the Community

Beyond our own building

Community involvement is the fifth area of certification, and it's the one our customers see most. Here's what we've done with our environmental partners.

Annual · Spring

Arbor Day Foundation tree distribution

Through Subaru Loves the Earth, we distributed 100 regionally appropriate trees in 2025, including Northern Red Oak, Sugar Maple, and Swamp White Oak, and held our second distribution in 2026. We're signed up again for 2027.

2025 · Milestone

74,609 gallons of runoff avoided

The Arbor Day Foundation projects that our 2025 trees will avoid 74,609 gallons of stormwater runoff and provide a day's oxygen for 400 people and a day's water for 910 people over their first 40 years.

2024 · Milestone

$27,851 for Holden Forests & Gardens

Holden Forests & Gardens was our Hometown Charity for the 2024 Subaru Share the Love Event. General Sales Manager Rob Lane presented the $27,851 check to President and CEO Ed Moydell on Fox 8's New Day Cleveland.

Annual · Since 2024

City of Painesville Clean Up Day

Our $1,000 annual sponsorship pays for the trash bags, gloves, and pickers volunteers use for litter pick-up, weed removal, and yard clean-up for residents in need. The most recent Clean Up Day was this past spring.

The Subaru Love Promise

Subaru Loves the Earth

The Subaru Love Promise is Subaru of America's national commitment to showing love and respect to all people at every interaction - and to backing that commitment through five pillars. Subaru Loves the Earth is the pillar for environmental stewardship, and Eco-Friendly Retailer certification is how it shows up in our own building.

Next time you're waiting on service, look for the Community Tree Impact display in our customer lounge. It shows what the trees our customers took home in 2025 will do for Lake County over the next 40 years.

Common Questions

About our certification

A few questions customers ask about what Eco-Friendly Retailer certification means.

What does it mean to be a Certified Subaru Eco-Friendly Retailer?

It means our store has passed Subaru of America's voluntary environmental certification. Green Dealer Support, Subaru's program partner, inspects the facility on site and scores it in five areas: energy efficiency, water conservation, recycling, waste management, and community involvement. A store is certified once it earns enough points across all five.

How long has Adventure Subaru been an Eco-Friendly Retailer?

Adventure Subaru was first certified in January 2018. In February 2026, Green Dealer Support and Subaru of America confirmed that we met every requirement for our 2025 recertification.

How can I get a free tree from Adventure Subaru?

Each spring we distribute trees through Subaru Loves the Earth and the Arbor Day Foundation, with customers reserving their tree online ahead of the event. We distributed trees in 2025 and 2026 and are signed up again for 2027. Watch our social media and email in early 2027 for the reservation link.

What happens to the oil, tires, and batteries from my service visit?

Used oil, coolant, batteries, and tires from our service department go to certified recyclers instead of the trash. Proper disposal of automotive waste is one of the five areas of our certification.
